Gum Contouring | Lake Charles, LA

When you smile, do you show a lot of your gums? Have you ever felt like your teeth are too short or look "stubby?" If you answered yes to either question, you might actually be hiding your perfect smile!

Gum reshaping or contouring may be the solution you never knew you needed. Here's what you should know.

What Is Gum Contouring?

The dental laser makes it easy for our dentists to eliminate the excess gum tissue covering your teeth and contributing to your "gummy smile." The laser uses concentrated light and heat to remove gum tissues without cutting them, accelerating the healing process and making it more comfortable.

Using the non-invasive dental laser, our dentists can contour the shape of your gums, giving your teeth greater length and revealing the smile you never knew you had!

Healing after Gum Contouring

The healing process after gum contouring is relatively straightforward. Most people can return to normal activities one or two days after their procedure.

Eating soft foods for the first couple of days after your gum contouring procedure is best while your gums heal. Here are some ideas:

  • Yogurt
  • Applesauce
  • Soup at room temperature
  • Scrambled eggs

It is normal for you to experience some swelling around your gums as they heal and even some tenderness. You can take over-the-counter medication to manage the discomfort.

Oral hygiene is still essential, but you'll have to be very gentle and careful not to irritate your surgery site. Warm salt water rinses are also helpful for soothing sore gum tissue and helping the healing process.
