Full and Partial Dentures in Lake Charles, LA

Man with partial dentures in st augustine FLWhen you lose teeth, it's essential to seek a tooth replacement, such as dentures, to preserve your oral health and restore your complete smile. At Scott M. Hannaman, DDS, we offer full and partial dentures to replace our patients' missing teeth, along with other tooth replacement options.

Full vs. Partial Dentures

For patients who have an entire arch of teeth missing, full dentures are most appropriate. Full dentures replace the whole arch of teeth, either upper or lower, to create a complete set of teeth for functionality and aesthetics.

We can use partial dentures in cases where a patient needs only a few missing teeth replaced.

Both full and partial dentures can improve oral health, the function of your bite, and the appearance of your smile. And they're one of the most affordable options for replacing missing teeth, which is a great benefit to many of our patients.

Caring for Dentures

To get the most out of your dentures, it's important to keep both your dentures and the rest of your mouth, including your remaining teeth, clean. Most dentures can be removed for easy cleaning and maintenance, making this process easier.

After receiving your dentures, you should continue with your regular oral hygiene routine, brushing and flossing any remaining natural teeth. You should also carefully clean your dentures every day. You can clean your dentures with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a cleanser. Most often, we recommend a denture cleaner for the safest and most effective cleaning.

It's vital that you're gentle with the dentures and use only non-abrasive materials when cleaning them. Never try to clean your dentures using overly hot or boiling water, strong cleansers, or whitening toothpaste, all of which could permanently damage your dentures.

It's also critical to soak your dentures regularly. If dentures dry out, losing their moisture, they will lose their shape and won't fit properly anymore. To keep your dentures moist, remove them at least once per day and place them in a denture-soaking solution. Most patients choose to perform this task at bedtime, removing their dentures and soaking them while they sleep.

With proper care and attention, your dentures will provide you with the most use, so you can enjoy eating your favorite foods and smiling with confidence for the longest time possible.
