The dentists at Scott M. Hannaman, DDS, are highly skilled and experienced in sedation dentistry and use modern technology and dentistry techniques to enhance patient comfort and provide exceptional outcomes.

We Help Alleviate Dental Anxiety

Millions of Americans have dental anxiety and phobia, preventing them from seeking necessary dentistry to keep their smiles healthy and problem-free. Drs. Edward J. Herbert and Scott M. Hannaman can put your mind at ease by providing safe and gentle sedation dentistry. We offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation and personalize your treatment to meet your unique preferences and needs.

Ultimately, we aim to create a more peaceful and relaxing environment, especially for patients with a lower pain tolerance or who experience difficulty sitting for periods. During your consultation at our dental office, our friendly and knowledgeable team will review your medical history and goals for treatment before suggesting the most appropriate form of sedation.

Our Sedation Options

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also called “laughing gas,” is a colorless, odorless gas mixed with oxygen that patients breathe through a face mask or nasal tube. It’s a conscious form of sedation, so patients are awake but feel euphoric, relaxed, calm, or even have giggle fits––hence the nickname “laughing gas.” Safe for children and adults, nitrous oxide wears off quickly, so patients are usually safe to drive and continue with their daily routine after their procedure.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation is a prescription pill you take before your treatment––usually an hour before your appointment. Your dentist will give specific instructions depending on your anxiety level and the medication’s strength. We can also combine oral sedatives with nitrous oxide for increased comfort.

Oral sedation puts your mind and body at ease while creating a more tranquil environment. Your doctors can still communicate with you throughout the appointment, but patients who use oral sedation have little to no memory of the treatment when it’s done. The effects of oral sedation last for hours, so you’ll need a designated driver, and we recommend taking the rest of the day off work or school.
